Predator 90
#1
I'm considering buying my son an ATV. Been looking at the Suzuki Quadsport 80, but I just checked out the Predator 90 at the Polaris website. Looks like its been upgraded from the Scrambler 90. The best thing I noticed is its a little wider and suspension travel is 4.5" front and rear. It also uses front a-arms and rear swingarm. Does anyone know of a youth quad that has a comparable suspension setup?

Go with a Honda 90. Sure, it's only got 2.5" of suspension and all the magazines harp on adding more travel to the kids quads but - I haven't seen where a 240 pound bike with a 70 pound rider needs more than 2.5" of travel. Unless you are planning on doing some serious racing or having your kid catch some real big air, stick with the TRX 90.
My 10 year old takes his 90 whereever we go with our Eiger and P650. He does rocks, he does mud, he does it all. The weakest link is the chain guard on the rear axel - he can get high centered when following in some of the big quad ruts. That chain guard is only going to get higher if the bike had bigger wheels and tires, extra suspension will not help it.
Granted, if the Honda 90 did have 2" extra suspension it would be a better bike that what it is now but I don't think it is worth the trade-off to get to loose the reliability of the Honda to get a Chinease/Korean/Taiwan ATV. so far, none have shown a solid reliability record.
In kids quads, I would rate the Honda 90 #1, the Suzuki LT80 (and now Kawasaki 80) #2 then leave a big gap and start ranking all the others.
