Default Am I crazy?????!!!

Hello all!! I'm new to this forum and I have already gotten plenty of great information in the short time I've been on!!
Now to my question,.....
Being a performance nut on the "car" side(hence owning built grand national)I have decided, along with the family to get into quads/bikes.The rest of the family have their "rides" picked out,but I am undecided....Adreneline in my blood my eyes are on a new Raptor 660R.Reason being,I like yamaha, and I don't want to be trading/selling quads for the next few years as I get more experienced.

Is this TOO much to begin on or is it a quad I can responsibly grow accustomed to????
Understanding,it will only do what you want it to do!!...........can it really be THAT crazy a quad?!hahaha

I'm not that much a novice that I don't know how "drive" a manual atv,

NOW you can all laugh at me!!!???.........
Thanks in advance, Kyle

Thats a tough question to answer bro...but ill give it a shot! A raptor is a whole lot of quad for a first time buyer! Lots of power that u need to learn to control. Id hate to see ya spend that much money on sumpthin that your most likely gonna bail (crash) on at least once or twice. My advice would b to buy sumpthin used...that u can get used to the way a quad feels and handles on...that way when u crash it...u wont hurt your purdy new quad! Maybe a Blaster or sumpthin like that? You can jus keep it for your pals to ride later on...so they wont crash your new bike when u get it Good luck! Thanks for the reply Warrior.
Funny you should mention the kfx400,...I was tire kicking 1 today and it felt real comfy,..and a little
lighter than the raptor.I am just a little on the yamaha side of the fence right now,but I have been
swayed before!!!

My main "objective" is to buy a atv I can get accustomed to, no monster jumps right away!!!!,it's the
$$$$$ issue.I don't want to be trading in,buying a new one, ride for a while,..trade that in/sell,buy another with more gusto,..again and again until inevitably end up buying a bigger quad like the
raptor,kfx,etc....I think my pocket book won't take as much of a hit it the grand scheme of things.

As for the rest of the family, they are more into the bikes. The 80's/90's for the smallest, something in the
110 range for the next one,and a 125/150 for my wife who,has been around them all her life...

Thanks again for your input, talk to ya soon,Kyle

Hey you can have just as much fun on a warrior or a 300EX as any of the higher priced ones and if you arent into dunes or racing you dont need the extra HP.As for your wife get here close to what you get yourself(you want here to keep up and not be gripping for you to slow down or wait for her)she will need at least a 250 and the kids stay away from the 2stroke Tiawanees mini s for the smallest go with Mini Raptor,TRX90,LT80.The bigger one the ONLY way to go is a 125 Yamaha Breeze dont let anyone tell you differant on these unless they have owned on they cant know how great of a machine they are I could go on about hem all day.If you are worried about trading up if you get tired of a 300 class trail machine ...hey the middle kid will need to trade up so you pass the quads up trade the small one(they hold their resale best any way) hope this helps Brad

Hey guys, and thanks for the responses!!
I am now more confused than ever, but that is probably a good thing. You make a good point ftwflh,
'bout "handing down" the quads as the youngin's grow up.I'm just such a kid at heart,my mouth is waterin' at the kfx400(it has a weak frame?,damn)or the raptor.

The angel on my shoulder says go smaller, but the devil on the other,....well,....hahahaha!!

late. Kyle.

Handing down is a great way to go. I started by putting my wife on a used polaris trail boss, and I'd ride my old dirt bike. She loved the ease of use on the polaris - no clutch, just 1 brake, and the gas. Next was a used xplorer 400 for me. By the time I was ready for my Raptor, she was ready for the 400. Now I have a great sport machine and "work" (ok, hunting and mud bog) machine.

to scratch it though!!!!!!hahaha

On the other hand, my buddy started on a Raptor (with a kittle dirt bike experience) and has done OK so far...
