New to the forum. Glad to be here. Here's the question.

Its been years since I've been on a quad but I've got the fever and I just bought my 6 year old a Polaris Scrambler 50. My Dad would NEVER have done that for me but I want to be (much) different from my Dad...but I digress.

I guess my question is this. I am vertically challenged (5-7) and weigh about 185 lbs. I believe I'd be pretty happy with the 330 trail boss but I would like some input. Speed is not a big issue but I do want a quad that I wont get board with. This purchase will be for me and my boy to get out and play. I don't need a workhorse. The only thing I will be pulling is my own butt around and it will be used on the local trails round my area. Some mud but mainly rolling hills (South Central KY)

The price is also pretty good on the Polaris so what do you all think?

the trailboss is a good bike for the money. For what you describe, the trailboss will be really fun, easy and safe. (just dont expect to win any races) (maybe against the 50)

I say go for it!!

What would be the approximate "full speed" on the Trail Boss?

Ohhhh,,,,Im not sure, maybe 57 or so,,,Im really unsure.

Fact is, the bike was not designed to be a speed demon. It was designed as an entry level, larger bike, which is very easy to use, very safe (stable), and fun to ride. You really cant go wrong,,,,,the price is right, it will have enough trail ridin power and speed. A really fun trailbike!

I would get a 2002 or better.

Do a search on trailboss in the Polaris forum.

Since you don't need a utility and don't want to be bored with it later. I would get a lighter sport quad for around the same price new or used. There are a few in the 250/300cc range that would be faster and more agile. Mojave, Warrior (used), 250EX, Z250, 300EX (used), blaster, etc...................................
It's the difference of having fun and FUN! Just think of it like this, A 5' 7" person will fit on more quads than a 6' 3" person. More sport cars too! P.S. Don't be too hard on your dad. As you're probably finding out, it's not always easy to be a dad. Just be the best that you think you can be.

Trailboss 330 is the way to go for starters and if you want more later trade up.No need to drop more $$$ than you need to just to have fun.

Thanks again guys. I have another concern I'd like to mention. I failed to mention that many of the trails around here have some water and not knowing much about the auto's other than it has belts concerns me. Should I be looking for something that is a manual or just an auto clutch? Some trails are just that, trails but others can have some decent water and mud. My original post may be a bit misleading concerning things that are wet[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

I am taking my time an I want to check several dealers of various brands before making any decisions but I want to be on the right track. The Mojave seems like a pretty decent bike as well as the lakota sport. Any info on these 2?

I think they are a little outdated. The Mojave has a kick start which can be a pain. The Mojave does have reverse and liquid cooling. The Lakota has a semi-auto while the Mojave has a clutch. Comparing the semi-auto Lakota to other semi's. (250EX, Z250) The Lakota has a chain while the other two have shaft.
(less maintenance) I don't like that the Lakota and Mojave share the same plastic.
Do you like a shift or an auto in your vehicle? I like to shift so I prefer a semi or a clutch. Would the water be deep enough to consistantly flow over the engine to effect the belts?
