Default Repaint

Hey guys, I'm new to atv's and the community. I've always been interested in mechanics but i am always under a tight budget. I bought a 350 warrior which im just starting to work on as a project. The guy I bought it from had painted it a really unattractive green. I am just wondering if anyone could offer suggestions on stripping methods and ideal type of paint... etc. I know opting for new plastics would be the most logical descision but like I said im under a budget.

I found this gel remover from remcho called methylene free paint remover at canadian tire and took the paint off like nothing without damaging the plastic. Any suggestions on what type of paint to repaint it with?

I have heard that that new plastic spray paint in a can works good.
Suposed to be designed to bond better with plastic only, not wood or metal.
My neighbor has used the regular spray paint and it turned out good. I think most of his bikes are stock paint though.

what i do with all my atvs is i just sand down the plastic with som 180 grit sand paper untill i get to the original plasti then find some 1000 grit sand paper and sand it smoth, next go to walmart or anywhere that sells spray paint and find a few cans of clear coat, what this does it bring out the original color and then the clear coat gives it that look of brand new plastics if you do it right, you may need to put on a few coats then sand it a little with 1000 grit then apply a few more coats, but trust me this method has worked for me on multiple rebuids.

dont use krylon fusion it doesnt work well, just sand the plastics down to remove the ugly green paint and then paint with regular krylon spray paint. it holds up good and doesnt chip or flake.

I am working on a similar project and have a question also...

when you are sanding do you need to get all the paint off, or can you take off the clear and about a layer of original paint then hit it with some primer? And after the primer use paint and clear? Or do I need to sand all the way down to the pastics removing all the paint?

I disagree with the Krylon fusion comment, I used it for my daughters, and it worked ok. Just ok means better than regular spray can, but not as well as the professional way. If you want to do it right, find a local auto paint shop, and have them mix any color you want polyurethane with the right flex addititve. ( if you dont have spray rig, some can mix it into a rattle can for you) Be sure to use "adhesion promoter" as a base coat. I did the plastics on my CBR1000 this way (house of color midnite black w/neon pink flame airbrushed with electric blue outline) and it came out excellent!
