Default need help with engine rebuild

i just bought an 05' 500ho sportsman. it's got a ton of miles on it but i picked it up at a good price. i swapped the tires for an aggressive mud tire and now it seems that in 4-low with mid throttle, it feels like the reverse limitier going forward. any ideas? also, i've got all winter to do a rebuild. i mean a total rebuild. any ideas on cam-piston-bigger carb-pipe-clutching. used for hunting, so i just need the power at the bottom.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but by throwing the big tires on it there alot heavier then stock. This means that the atv has to use alot more power to turn them the same speed as a stock tire. You're best bet is to lower the gearing and get a cam, free flowing air filter, and a performance exhaust (but sound is an issue so idk bout that one). Also a rejet to get it running less lean.

Default sportsman rebuild

thanks for the info. i suspected the tires might of been the problem. i'm going for the re-jet and taking off the pre-filter sock. it seems to me that the polaris designed air box is confining flow and i know the engine needs the vacuum. i'm thinking of taking the top off completely.theres no dust in alaska.
