$hiznit.....
Take a look at my cam - http://www.pressenter.com/~gvogt/cam_out.JPG
Take a look at my head - http://www.pressenter.com/~gvogt/head_damage.JPG
WOW.. Not nice...

Ok, So, any one have a stock cam for sale???

I also did NOT find the rest of the cam, god only knows where it went to....
Do I now need to tear down the motor to find it??

I found this pice under next to the shim next to the damage, http://www.pressenter.com/~gvogt/piecefound.JPG
I believe it comes from the top of the head to hold the carrier in place..
So here is the carrier, http://www.pressenter.com/~gvogt/carrier_damage.JPG

How is GOD's name did this happen???

The only thing I can think of is it fell out when the shims were replaced then it happend to just sit next to the valve bucket until the RIGHT vibration or bump made it flip up then the cam hit it when it was on the way down, it pinched it next to the head and shatterd the cam...
Thats my guess on what happend...
Now, I have amost 80hrs on that thing since I repalced the shims, and I have run it HARD, took it to snake hunt, and then about 300+ miles. All the time doing wheelies and jumping.. Could it really have been floating all this time????

Do I need to have the head repaird or is it ok? Its not in a flow point or anything...
Should I replace it with a stock cam? or get new sport cams, but then I need a piston to make up for the bottom losses..

Next, should I continue to pull the head off to check any piston/valve damage??

Dude......I must say you post some quality pics !!!!!!!!!! Sorry about your bike though. Did ya learn anything ? Tell yer buddy to get his own Bomb. If ya mess it up yerself, it don't hurt that much. When someone else blows yer sh*t up.......that hurts way bad.

I could be wrong here, but that peice you found next to the shim looks like the pin that hold the decompression mechinism in place. But if that was the case you would see that the exhaust cam is missing the decompression mech. And you didn't mention that.

Yea man, sorry bout yer bike.

If your feeling like being a bad friend, or you don't like that particular friend anyway, just say he over-revved it way too much and it's fault he caused all the damage, and make him pay for it.

Maybe that's why I don't have many friends...

Hehe, J/K

good luck Mudstud

Hummm...what about the **** on the back of the timming gears. Are they still there. two for each timming gear. Oh also there are studs in the head that go into the cam bridges. Could it be one of those. Can't see how one of them could have gotten there unless it was done during a cam change.

Ya, I think it IS one of the cam bridge studs. I only found 1 in the head then the 1 I found. The only thing I can think of is it fell out when I took the cams out in FEB to re-shim them. It must have fell in the oil pool in front of the spring.

if you look at the head damage pic you will notice there is NO stud there...

Yup...not there. Big time bummer. Bet that never happens to you again. Since you shared, I bet we will all be a little more carful when removing and reinstalling the cam bridges. I'll bet your friend will never ride your bike again for fear that it will die on him again. I ride other forum members bikes all the time. And that type of thing is the first thing that goes through my head.

Hey Buddy,

We talked tonight and got thinks worked out, but I still feel bad brother.
You know I do, and even if you had trashed my 250r 3 wheeler, I'd still think the same of you.
You're my bro, and I'm really sorry about your cam. I wish I had a better alterantive......stage 2, rocks, though, right? I'm game on helping you pay.
