Default TM45 accel pump made sweet for thumb

Man I rode today and it was the most awesome I've had on my DS. The front wheels will pull up as easy as my 350X with just a blip of the throttle at low rpm that would otherwise bog without the pump. its awesome, I'm very happy. 3rd gear wheelies have never been easier - bsolutely no clutch work required at all - just gas and go.

I must stress that your carb has to be fully tuned as best as it can be - the idle/pilot, the needle, and the main jet all need to be dialed in perfect - BEFORE you ever activate the pump so that the pump's action does not give you false impressions of your jetting. the pump only squirts when you push the throttle, but when just holding the throttle at a given position the pump does not do jack. it is just there to fill that little gap of time it takes for the fuel syphoning through jets to catch up to the air you just introduced by opening the slide. if your jetting is right, and you're sure because you've had plenty of saddle time to know with all your trial and error, then when you finally do engage the pump, setting its two travel limits to accomidate what you want is very easy and takes very little time.

Dude its just downright great man. At any given time i can just hammer the throttle as hard as I want and never get the slightest lag. I mean like I always said - that infamous lag off idle never really was too big a deal, it was easy to avoid, but having it gone is great and the ease of wheelies has never been this good. I can only describe the throttle response as Explosive and Violent.
I've ridden with the pump before, and new of its potential, but the thumb lever tension was my only hang-up. But with a spring created to be easier than the stiff spring offered by Mikuni, but tight enough to work with the pump, its heaven.

Sorry my posts are so long, just wanna share the excitement best as I can!

Okay guys, please bear with me.

I have the Mikuni TM45 tuning guide. (Got it online from Mikuni).

There is a blown up view and a parts list.

Here are the parts that it says A/P next to it.

Lever, A/P
Spring, A/P
Screw. A/P
Spring, A/P
Adjusting Screw, A/P
O-Ring, A/P Screw
Nozzle, A/P (I'm pretty sure that I have it)
Rod, A/P **
Boot, A/P Rod **
Plunger, A/P **
Spring, A/P **

The ones with ** I do not think that I have them.

But according to the diagram, I have the other parts already installed.\

As for the nozzle, last time I opened my bowl, I remember seeing a brass kind of tube that was going into the carb in an angle. Also, when I look into the throat of the carb, there is a brass tube (about 1/4 inch in bore, pointy at the end) sticking out from the bottom. Is that the nozzle?!?!

So if I was to order those parts, how hard would it be to install them and enable it??

Thanks

And also, looking at The Punisher's post, will the pump hurt my gas mileage considerably??

Thanks.

not hard, the rod and boot are self explanatory, you remove the bowl for the plunger and spring, and you may find that they actually are in there if you already have that other stuff too.
the nozzle enters the carb throat at an angle, from the right side, and is less than 1/8" in dia. seems like, with a tiny hole that would face the needle on the bottom of the slide. pushing the rod pumps the plunger to squirt out this hole.
I would think that your carb would have all this in it, to disengage the pump is to simply slip the spring off the plastic lever, but if you bought the carb used or something, its hard telling what somebody may have done. but when you remove the bowl you would see the pump plunger in it - it goes in a whole about 10mm in dia in the bowl itself, and pushing on the that plunger, if its there, will squirt gas up at you. installing the bowl connects the hole it squirts through to the pump nozzle port in the carb body, and pushing the rod while looking down the carb throat will allow you to see it squirt and you wanna make sure the nozzle is pointing so that the squirt is directed at the slide needle in the center of the carb.

whatever that diagram says is the default nozzle for the carb is what I'm running, and it perfect for my motor, but I have midrange cams portwork and high comp so if your motor is stock you may wanna get a leaner nozzle but only trial and error will tell

No drawbacks on the carb spring cutting. What I did was When I loosened the cap on top of the carb I let the cap sit while I somewhat counted the coils. I cut around 6 coils off. It works awesome!!! It Revs quite a bit quicker or a lot quicker for 5 min of screwing around. I noticed that it still has a bit of spring pressure even with 6 cut off. I might cut 1 or two more but 6 is about perfect. You wont regret it!! I noticed even under a load going through the gears it accelerates quicker. I do know this for sure because there is a gravel road I run wide open down and there is a specific corner, a slight corner and before I cut my spring that I would just get past it and be wound out. BUT, after i cut 6 coils off the spring I could get wound BEFORE the corner. It reminded my when I added my jet kit, K&N filter and pipe. It was like adding this on top of a pipe jet kit etc.. Best 5-10 min I spent with the quad and it's free so u cant go wrong!!!!!
