Default Carb Adjustment Help!

Hi, I just did my first mods on my 02 Baja, HMF slip-on, K&N Carb Mount, Dynojet, and 15 tooth front. I used Stage 3 instructions, 195 Main, 2 1/4 turns on Air/Fuel, And Dynojet Needle 3rd clip. I am below 1000 feet. My problem starts when I rev the engine for a few seconds, between 3000-5000 RPM's, as soon as I let off the gas it backfires. Not too much, but its there. Any suggestions?? Am I running to high a jet? Should I adjust my fuel/air? Im new to this, so anything helps. Thanks.

Danny

Default Carb Adjustment Help!

Let me start by saying that I am not a mechanic or carb expert. But when my carb backfired it was running too lean. The needles needed adjusting.

I think that your 195 is fine ,as I have similar mods and mine is a 185. is yours a K&N ? I know others #'s are different than K&N.

I have the same mods with the same problem. The 195 is right. You need to move the needle down one and test repeat until you get the backfiring out. YOu have a lean midrange.

I called DynoJet, the tech told me it had nothing to do with the needle since the backfire was occuring near the end of de-acceleration. She said that I need to keep turning my mixture screw till I get it right. Then she said if it doesnt go away "then it will stay like that always" . I am hoping she is wrong, that doesnt sound right.

If fine tuning the fuel screw don't work, put in a bigger pilot jet and THEN fine tune the fuel screw. Works every time LOL.

Default Carb Adjustment Help!

I have a distinct problem. My DS doesn't seem to want to start UNLESS I give it gas upon start up. Sometimes I'm on the starter for a while to get it going. I think I have a 175 main jet in there as well. Would I need a bigger pilot?

My dyno kit did the exact same thing. Open the air screw to about 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 and it will go away.
