Sprockets

last week I changed the stock back sprocket from the 44 to a 35
this mod did concern me due to the potential of bogging out of the hole and
the ability of hill climbing .
this mod was put to the test at the Salamanca dice run 5/7/00
and it worked out just fine !
the high torque of the DS pulled this gear like it was meant to be .
first is still vary useable in tight woods riding
out of the hole the gear holds longer increasing the hole shot ability
hill climbing is still a breeze on this atv case in point (Salamanca ).
And the best point of the mod is the top end W O W! now it’s fast.
This mod is only recommended with the use of an after market pipe ( CT racing) on it
because with the stocker on it I do believe it will bog out of the hole

mods:

ds650 7200
CT pipe 400
sprocket specialist 40
$ 7640
if you have a new atv in this price range and would like to test it out
against this over weight beast I would love to give you the chance
to fallow I mean race me.
Ill wait at the next check point

Did you get a chance to race anyone that you have previously raced with the stock gearing? It would be interesting to know where you are faster than before.

I believe the stock rear has a 40 tooth not 44. Did you use the stock chain? I thought it was a masterless link chain. I want to get a chain and sprocket matched set from sidewinder, with a stainless steel rear.

Quad 500/650P: Just curious, how much more top end do you think you have gotten? Have a chance to radar it?

Can you easily get the front end off the ground in first or second with a tap of the throttle only?

With this mod I do believe to have gained 15 mph but I don’t have a radar
to check it but I never had one in the first place.
I did run with the same bunch that I ride with normally so the test group
didn’t change .

the non master link chain was simple to do by grinding off the pins to the
desired link pop that off then add the master link to it .
the master link was on the shelf at the street bike shop pretty common item there.

As for the wellies yes it does seem to come up a bit easier but IM not the wellies man
so haven’t tried it yet on the new sprocket .

before the mod I felt that first was kinda lame no power at all
now its a useable gear.

I placed a 38 Sidewinder on my DS last week. Did not have to replace chain, plenty of take up in rear. My stock DS on pavement ran 79.5 mph, this was recorded with a Garmin 12 XL GPS strapped to the bars. After replacing the rear sprocket to a 38 it ran 86.3 mph via GPS. The machine wheelies awesome, not much effort is needed in pulling the front end off the ground. Does anybody have any tips in rejetting a stock DS.

I'm having trouble getting the HUGE hub nut off so I can replace the rear sprocket. With a pipe wrench and a long steel bar for leverage it still won't come loose. Maybe taking a hammer to the nut will break it loose. Counter clockwise to loosen right?

I'm fairly certain couter clockwise TIGHTENS the axle nut! You are referring to the huge nut just to the left of the brake rotor right? If so, yes counter clockwise tightens, clockwise loosens.

KawasakiKid is right it is counter clockwise to TIGHTEN. I had mine come loose recently and
CRTLeech informed me of the direction (he had the same problem). Hope this helped good luck. What size sprocket are you putting on?
