Cam chain adjusting question?
#1
While replacing my clutch yesterday(bike on it's right side), I noticed the cam chain was REALLY loose. I have never heard a sound like it was loose while running??????? This bike just purrs like a tiger. Is this an auto adjusting chain in stock form? I have read things about manual adjusting after market parts, but what keeps it adjusted stock?

cam chain tensioner is hydraulic, operated by oil pressure.
some people have had them fail, particularly on modded higher reving motors with aftermarket cams, and the manual adjustable tensioners are an alternative.

Thanks Hightower,
That must be the reason everything sounds quite and fine when she's running. I noticed a large bolt head on the left rear side of the head, about where the tentioner would be. Does that both head have anything to do with the hydraulic tentioner?

Hightower, Ok, thats the tentioner under that bolt head, but I don't need to ever touch it right? It's Hydraulic and self adjusts?

yes bajamark there is no adjustment on the stock tensioner, it self adjusts with oil pressure.
some have gone bad, if they go bad enough its possible to jump time at high revs and get valve timing outa wack, and high dome high compression pistons can hit valves and trash. hence the manual adjuster option.
mine stocker is almost 3 years old and so far all is well, but I'm considering replacing for a preventive measure since I have internal motor work as well.
