Default What can happen if I reuse my oil filter?!?

Hey guys,

I started an oil change thinking I had the right oil filter...it ends up I bought the long ones (for the 2001's and up I think) but my DS uses the short ones. I called my dealer and they said that they had to order the short filters because they were out of stock.

My DS is sitting in my garage without oil. It will be over a week and a half until they recieve the filters....I had a trip planned this week...

What can happen if I re-use my oil filter...

I also noticed there was some sludgy thick oil in my oil tank and case drain plugs...

was the oil in the filter and the crankcase milky looking. if so i would not use it again. i would wait for a new filter. but if the oil was normal looking then i would use it, and when my new filter shows up i would change the oil again.

Why don't you guy's pay closer attention to previous posts i wonder? DO NOT REUSE THAT FILTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is what clogs up that screen in the tank faster than anything! You should also order the longer cover from your dealer for your filter then you can run the longer filter, it also helps with the foaming that seems to be prevelant in that year DS.

Well...65$ for a reusable filter translates to over 100$ canadian. I can get the long filters aftermarket for 5$ bucks...so the re-usable is not worth it....

How hard is it to convert to the longer filters when I have the right parts?
