I went riding this weekend and three times when I started my bike I heard a weird clank sound and the it would just stop turning over. It sounded fine at first everytime then it would just stop cranking over and then make the clank sound- it was fairly loud and concerns me. I pulled the valve cover tonight just to make sure the timing chain was tight and everything in the top end looks fine. Could it be the one way bearing going out that's connected to the starter gears? Has anyone experianced this? Any other ideas?
It's hard to determine the rough area that the noise is coming from because it'll only do it once then I'll crank it over again and it starts and runs fine with no unusual noise.
Throw me some ideas guys....

Check the flywheel for tightness,immediately!

 

Mine does the same thing, does the starter sound like its missing or grinding? i think mine is the starter clutch, i heard they go out due to high compression, i could be wrong though....

 

haven't heard a miss or a grind just a loud clunk! - I drove back to the truck 20+miles after the last one I heard[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]
