Default rotax in a drag frame?

after finally making it to a offical drag with a tree, i feel i ahve a better understanding of the drag race as a whole. so after seeing several things run it was odd a dune ready machine would pull up next to a drag frame with strutts. well the fourstrokes did somewhat well, and i thought it would be interesting to get a rotax in a drag frame, more of a fourstroke against two stroke thing, but after being there, there is a real line in the dirt fourstroke vs two, which makes for great fun. well i may think on this some more and start looking for a spare rotax, i know there are probably better fourstrokes but in a single i don't know which one, not to debate i just don't know what it is. it would be nice to run with the single cylinder two strokes that way.

If you could some how get the DS engine into a 350lbs set-up, it would be a REAL CONTENDER. It seems to me that a 2-stroke must have more power to beat a 4 stroke.

Example: if you had a Banshee that weighed 500 lbs and put out 60 hp,and raced it against a DS with 60 hp, the Four-stroke would win everytime. It would be nice to get all the benefits of the DS in a LIGHT version.

Bigger.

That's hard considering the motor itself weighs 110 lbs.

is that thing really that heavy? i don't recall it feeling like a 100 pounds. seems the looks of the ds would be kind of neat in a low drag bike, lengthened out. well even at a fair 400 pounds it might be a lot easier to win a all out race with single cylinders

I've heard it said the DS Engine is right around 100 as well. Knutz used to talk about it all the time - the UPS guy 'dropping' (literally) the packed engine on the shop floor with a clanky thud. I think if I was going to ship a DS engine, I'd find some DAMN GOOD packing. Computer monitor boxing would likely be best - they weigh in at 60 Lbs. for a 19" CRT - that means the box is pretty sturdy and if you pack it with the right non-collapseable material it should ship pretty well.

well i guess there is no need to expect it to be as light as a two stroke. how much do those drag frames weigh?

The DS frame and sub frame wiegh and bumpers (without A-arms)wiegh in about 115 lbs!! The drag frames you see the Hill shooters using will wiegh about 40-50lbs. Some ive heard go less than that.

ASo that means that all the other stuff that makes a DS a "quad" wieghts about 200lbs. THESE are the things you can replace to save wieght on the DS. Swing-arm,chain,hubs,A-arms,Shocks,Steering stem,wheels/tires,Radiator,Oil tanks
