Default lookin at a ds

I'm going in a few hours to look at a ds baja at a dealer. I'm interested in the ds 650, (not baja or baja x model). So, I will be viewing the model I don't want. My question is... the 650 base model is the same as the baja or baja X minus some skid plates, lights, nerf bars etc.?

Well in the early years the BAJA offered a better package, but know it is lights, and tach. but why not get everything a DS has to offer??? You can order new plastic for CHEAP(if you dont like the baja look), but still maintain the cool tach, lights, better bumpers ,etc....

Yes, they are basically the same (i.e., same motor, carb, pipe, etc.). The X model offers gas shocks up front, stainless steel brake lines, nerf bars, and lots of undercarriage protection, along with all the Baja extras. The Baja has handguards, a muffler shield, aluminum front bumper, shockwears, two extra headlights, better grips, and a tachometer. They're all great - you can't go wrong with any of them!

Ok, here is what I would do. I would save up the extra money that it costs to get the X. Only because it has nice EXTRA features that you probably will want. It cheaper to get them as a package.. Save up and get the best...

just get what you like, the parts are cool but you may not need all of them, i have slowly turned mine into a baja , but the stock pipe now sits on a shelf, the front bumper i like but i'm more interested in other types, the hand guards are nice but i wouldn't use them. the extra lights were like a 100 and easy to install, the foot pegs were like 27 and not so fun but easy to install the tach was fun and easy, shock covers were like 38 . the extra rev limit of 200 is a joke get a cdi fom woods, they rock, compared to stock. did i miss any other baja parts, oh and what ever the new front shock are going to be i'm sure they are not as good as a set of aftermarket. man you can put a lot of time into these thing, and not realise it.

Didn't you guys forget to mention the reinforced wheels? Isn't there only about $300 difference in the base bike and the Baja? Thats nothing when you're spending almost 6K!! And the tach alone will cost about that much.

One thing you have to remember for the extra $400.00 you will spend on a Baja X you are getting about $2000.00 in aftermarket accesories that you will eventually end up paying for down the road. Spend the extra $400 and have some fun!!!
