Default motor runnin bad!!

Alright guys. I live in Alabama down by the shore so my elevation is at sea level. My Ds was running like a clock and I put on a filter and jet kit and now it wont run worth a crap. Heres what I did. I have a modded end cap, k & n filter with the air box lid off, Im running a 190 main, and I cut 4 loops off of the slide return spring like I was told to do in this forum. I used a dynojet kit and put the new needle on the 2nd slot from the top. When I cranked it up it backfired a lot. It will rev to the moon but very choppy throughout the entire rpm range. almost as if its missing really bad or maybe backfiring. sometimes when I turn the motor off it backfires through the carb. What went wrong guys???

IM NO MECHANIC, but i think it has something to do with the dyno jet kit, try to put stock carb internal parts back i in it the way it comes stock, and jet a few steps fatter with stock main jets, and i bet it will rip....i have never had any luck with them dyno jet kits, but thats just me..it may work well for some though.

First double check everything, then I would go down about 3 clips on your needle position(rising the needle up), and also make sure you turned your AIR/fuel mixture screw out 3 turns.

also make sure you have no trash in your gas, maybe clogging up your Pilot jet.

Well the bike was running great about 5 mins before I decided to work on it, so I really dont think its the gas. my air screw is 2 1/2 turns out but I will try 3. I followed the directions exactly in the dyno kit but guess they dont know everything. I stretched the spring a little and it seemed to help but it still backfires around 5 grand and keeps doing it all the way up to redline. does anyone think that the spring is causing the problem, should I get a new one and try it like that. Also I rode the bike and it seems to have lost a little bit of its zip. does anyone think that maybe my main is too rich? Im pulling my hair out over here

rise you needle up. A dynojet 190,cross-references to a mikuni 180. so I would say your lean. by rising the needle you will richen out the mixture. another thing to check(important!) is the rubber diaphram that is on top of your vacuum slide. If thier is a small hole/tear in it you slide will not rise up,but instead will flutter .

It sounds like to me you have a vacuum leak. Probably on the top of your carb when you were putting the needle in. Take a can of air or carb cleaner or something like that, let the bike idle and spray it all around the carb and intake boot. If the motor either cuts out or revs up you will have found your leak. Also check your main jet to make sure you didn't get a small piece of dirt clogged in there, I have seen that many of times. Good luck.

k guys i raised the needle 3 notches and i could press the throttle all the way down and it would take about 2 and a half seconds to rev out to the rev limmiter. so i then let it back down 2 notches and it revs good with no backfire. doesnt really seem to rev any wuicker than stock though, Should i get a nes spring and go ahead and cut it or leave it alone or maybe even go back stock with the spring? thanks guys
