Vortex CDI

Scooby,
I think you should cancel your order with them and place an order with someone who has the unit in stock. I've heard of more than one shop that does have them in stock. You being in Texas should work out reasonably well for shipping from most anywhere in the US. Oh, and ask whoever is shipping it to you for a tracking number, as soon as they have a tracking number that means your box is ready and waiting to be shipped. The only thing left to do then is check the UPS / FedEx / whatever company website until your box gets to you. (Even the USPS can track packages - you just have to pay a small extra fee during shipping.)
On the topic of CDI boxes and the DS650 here is the deal:
2000, 2001 and 2002 DS650s all have the exact same CDI, which tops out at 7700 RPM.
2002 Baja, 2003 and newer DS650s of all types to date have the 'new' CDI which tops out at 7900 RPM. (This new CDI also has a different plug, as mentioned before, however it is standard issue on more than just the 03 - 04s.)
There are presently more machines on the market with the 'new' CDI now than the old one (or there will be soon) so I really don't know why Ron Wood hasn't bothered to actually 'fix' his box. I considered a RWR box a couple of times, however after every time I consider itI have a mental image of what a Baja DS looks like with the jury rigged box and I have never liked that idea.
The Vortex box is available with the correct plug and pin out for the 'new' style DS and I believe they also have one availabe for the 'old' style DS. That alone makes me consider their product in a much better light.

Well, sounds like they are hard at work spending your money. Hopefully this isn't SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for RK. I'd hate to think that we've found yet ANOTHER shop that can't get their act together.

I briefly tried out the CDI with preliminary curves & rev limits for the turbo.
The bottom end is much improved in power and throttle response with the full timing available earlier instead of a ramp.
I wouldn't live without the programmble rev limit.
But something doesn't seem right. I have a bunch of similar curves that give me a range of advance to select. When I hold the RPM at around 2500, and switch between traction and power I see no change in RPM on the tach and the exhaust tone doesn't change. This doesn't make any sense, because I am switching between 2 curves that have around a 5 degree difference in timing at that RPM.
I have done this with a woods CDI using a resistor and heard the change in exhaust tone and saw the RPM change.
I don't think the handlebar switch is working.

That box aint right. When I switch between traction and power on mine, the tone and feel are definate.
