Default Feet for an X

Well South finally got his Baja X a few days ago. Just about got her broke in and about ready to start the modifications. As a fore thought, what paddles do you Bomb guys recommend? He's gonna be doing a lot of all around riding with an occasional drag race. We are all pretty partial to Xtreme haulers but I need some recommendations from some experienced Baja riders. What size and brand preference?

I would especially like some input from you Scooby.

Thanks,

~HoundDog

I love my Xtremes. I have have the 22" tall ones with 8 paddles, but a lot of guys go with 9.

Ben, any problems with hitting your foot guards with the 22"? Did you change your gearing after going to the taller tire?

20" Sand Skate IIs work well for me in Glamis all day long!

Johnny, do you like your 20" tires better than 22's. I was wondering because most people say to go bigger?

He wants straights. We have had bad experiences with v-paddles not getting enough traction in the looser sand. We run front ridges so turning is not a problem.

I like the 20's since I run taller gears with knobbies on my 22" ITPs.
It helps so I don't have to do a rear and counter sprocket change when I run paddles.
Basically... I don't need all that top end with paddles, so I do one tooth down on the counter when running the paddles.

And everyone out here ... or most of my 'drag' friends with Banshees...etc, run the Haulers. (straight edged paddle)

HoundDog- Before I got my extremes I made heelguards out of aluminum because one of my stock ones was broken. I'm pretty sure they would hit stock heelguards, but would clear with a little trimming. All of the DS's with 22" Extremes that I have seen either had aftermarket/custom heelguards or none at all. I thought about going with race cut fenders and no heelguards, but I see mud occasionally.

I have not changed my gearing yet, but I need to. I'm torn about whether to get a 14 or 15 tooth.

Thanks ben, that's kinda what I figured.

Anybody else have any comments on the situation?

Dog, I'll give another big vote for the 22" Haulers.

Ben, from my experience i would also give the 14t a vote. I went to LS with 20" paddles and 15/40 gearing, thank GOD my buddy had an extra 14t because 4th gear was weak and 5th was useless.
