Not true. It's what's not in a motorcycle oil (friction modifiers) that helps the wet clutch. Besides, the oems don't make oil, they just buy someone elses and slap their label on it.

I use Amsoil in everything, also. One comment I'd like to make about the 20w-50 users. That weight is designed for air cooled motorcycle engines. It's heavier than you need in a liquid motor. With synthetic you don't get the thermal breakdown plus the thinner oil actually helps you run cooler by reducing internal friction and also transferring heat better than the higher vis. I would say the Formula 4-stroke 0w-40 for normal trail riding and the 10w-40 motorcycle for more aggressive use. Plus it flows better cold reducing start-up wear. Although given how often most people get a new quad, you'd probably never notice any difference.

95sport400, i see your point on using light weight oils. my only problem is that i run enduros with my ds. they last a minimum of 1 hour and one lap is at least 3.5 miles. the one i'm running sat is three hours with 6.5 mile laps. its just piece of mind to have thicker oil and not something that looks like tap water in my motor. keep on rid'n everyone.

I understand your concern, it's only natural. However, as long as your cooling system is operating properly, your motor doesn't see any more internal temp after 30 minutes or 3 hours and the synthetic doesn't breakdown under long, hot runs. A local stock car racer was running the 0W-30 Amsoil in his race car!

This is what I "USED" to run;

CR500 = ATF
XR650 = 10w40 Cheap brand
BANSHEE = 10w40 Cheap brand

*I had no problems running the above... no premature wear or clutch issues*

This is what I run now....

XR650 = Golden Spectro 20w50 Synthetic Blend
CRF450 = Golden Spectro 20w50 Synthetic Blend & 85W Maxima (for gearbox)
DS650 = Golden Spectro 20w50 Synthetic Blend

WHY do I run the costly stuff now?? you ask.....
Well, the CRF needs "the good stuff"... and I figure why skimp on the other bikes. No reason to make them jealous that I'm favoring the CRF... right?! They do talk while I'm at work you know.

I used Mobile1-4T on the last oil change but at 6 bucks a qt - if I can't tell the difference it will be the last time I use it. Maybe thats why nobody else uses it?? I ran the cheap stuff for many hours with no problems when it was new.
