Default Black Smoke

I Just modded my endcap using a 2" piece of exhaust pipe. Didn't turn out too bad but I am not the greatest brazer in the world. Anyway, the machine runs fine and sounds great but when you wind it up it shoots a little black smoke out of the muffler. It don't seem to spit and sputter or anything just the smoke. I bought a couple jets but they were hex instead of round so I haven't got to rejet yet, could that be the problem? Everything else on the machine is stock.

Thanks

When i got my modded end cap it was recommended to rejet. Modding your end cap should make your bike run alittle more lean. But it doesnt sound like your lean if your shooting out black smoke. (?) Does it seem to run any better if you have the choke on, if so jet fatter.

I does run better with the choke on. Now it is really hard to start and it backfires through the carb and sometimes quits at an idle. I am thinking about changing the clip on the needle also. Do you think this would help? I have some jets on the way. The main jet should only effect WOT, correct, so this shouldn't have any effect on the bad idle conditions?

Thanks again

Don't forget about the mixture screw!!!!! This could cure the idling problem. I'm not going to touch the smoke problem!!!!! Maybe you're just blowing the soot out of it!!!!!

P.S. Have you heard about the Silver Lake trip??? Only 10 days away!!!

Well I tried adjusting the air screw. I read someone on here had it at 2 3/4 turns out so I started there. It seemed to idle fine then. So I took it for a short ride. It didn't have any power. It wouldn't even hit the rev limiter. When I got back I checked the plug and it wasn't really white but the gap was almost closed right off to the electrode. I am not going to touch it now untill I can get some good advice.

I might make the Silver Lake trip if I can get this thing runnin right and stable. I really need some help!!

What do you mean the gap was almost closed off to the electrode??? Was it smashed, burnt, or have carbon buildup causing no gap??? I think gap is supposed to be around .035".

What is your elevation? are you running a K&N filter? air box, or NO airbox?

Stock airbox, filter, snorkel, etc. Elevation about 700ft. The gap was like someone pushed it shut. The plug was clean, and still silver. It almost looked like there were some chunks missing from the tip of the plug but that may have been from me taking it out.

I would say you fixed the idle problem with the screw, and the plug sure isn't helping the power.

Have you checked the other plug yet?

I really don't think rejetting is necessary with lid and snorkels on no matter what exhaust you have. But raising needle one groove would probably be a pretty good idea.

I took both plugs out. The inside one didn't look bad, but it was starting to get a little white. I put new plugs in, put the needle clip in the bottom position and set the mixture screw 2.75 turns out. It idles fine but it has no power what so ever. I try to do a wheelie and it almost stalls out. It won't rev high enough to hit the rev limiter in first gear either. I getting pretty mad, nothing seems to work. I'm starting to regret this whole thing. Anybody have any suggestions, I don't know what to do.

Thanks
