Well, last weekend I made a donation to The Friends of Sand Mt. and as a reward got a gift certificate for a pair of Works A-T Steelers with smooth reservoirs ($529 value). (Thanks for the donation Works!)

The first question: should I put them on my DS or on my Wife's Raptor (I know. . . stupid question - put them on the DS!)

Should I pay a few more $$ and get a different set of shocks from Works? Looks like the Piggyback Pro-Series with compression adjustment are $699 (cost me $170). The Piggyback Pro-Series with compression AND rebound adjustment are $899 (cost me another $470.)

Is the rebound adjustment really worth it on the front shocks? I don't think I am willing to spend another $470 but, another $170 would be fine if there is much difference.

What do you guys think?

DUNEME, i had the works tripple rate with piggyback res, i blew them out in two weeks, but i also was hitting big jumps and some 15ft drop offs in the dunes..
But Tony has the works tripple rates with with seperate resivor and they seem to do alot better...

well it would be nice move to give them to the wife, but man every trip out you would have the feeling off what if, looks like you could use better shocks but is she having a hard time keeping up with you now? actually the more i think it over i'd do the up grade for a 170 and put them on the ds and then if you decide the wifes riding is to where she needs a set of better shocks, you can find a set on ebay or the classified on here and save a lot of money, you would probably never find a set like that for a ds.

 

The only thing that I can bring to your attention is if you have radiator shrouds, The piggy back rezzy's will be real close or most likely hit your shrouds.

Rebound on the front shocks, If you are not running Desert races or MX races, I would not suggest it. For the average person, they would not see the benefit of it. Also, it is just something else to go wrong on the suspension.

I've always liked my works triples with remotes.

 

I would kill just for the compression setting on the front. Rebounds important on the front, just not as important as the rear -- unless you're a competitive racer or plan on going in that direction.

Ive been looking at the Elka shocks and alot of duners say those are the ones to go with because compression dampening is so much more accurate on the approach to a dune jump. They make some pretty interesting shocks. Retail prices go from $895 for a set of tripples with compression dampening only to $1245 for the quad rate with compression and rebound dampening (piggy or remote). hmmmmmm.

Good call by DuneDevil on the piggybacks! I would also like to suggest that you make sure to get the shocks upgraded with 5/8" shafts...I believe the steelers come standard with 1/2" shafts and about a year ago someone in here was bending them...

I realized shortly after last weekend, Mark, that you were the one who helped me out with a stock throttle cable earleir this year when I was working in Reno...LOL! It was good meeting you and congrats on the shocks.
