Default installing fuel filter

i finally got around to buying a fuel filter (3011 NAPA) and i think it is just too long. somebody recommended this filter in a post. if i had to install this filter vertically, i think i would have to use alot of fuel line and a route the line in a funky way. it is ok to have a long fuel line from the gas tank to the carb?

I believe it was one of my earlier posts that you are referring to. The outside diameter of that filter does make it a little difficult to mount cleanly, but it will work. It doesn’t have to be perfectly vertical just make sure that the outlet side is lower than the inlet side. What this does is creates a fuel reservoir to compensate for the filter restriction.

Default installing fuel filter

I just had some major suffering this week due to a paper element fuel filter not flowing well enough. Two weeks ago I removed my anodized aluminum filter that has a cleanable stone element inside, and installed a transparent plastic filter with a paper element. I thought the transparent idea was great. So then my first ride with it my bike would fall on its face going from 3/4 to full throttle. Seems the bowl would run out faster than the filter could replenish. I removed the new filter, through it as far as I could, and all my problems were gone. I put my stone element back on.
The filter was indeed mounted perfectly verticle, gravity was in its favor. I'm not slamming all paper filters, but this one I got from Carquest is no good for gravity feed. Just be aware, if symptoms depelop you know where to look first.

Yep. I too have the anodized stone element filter. Works great. I have it mounted next to the carb.
