Has anyone had their headpipes coated and was there any horsepower increase noticed?

 

Ceramic coated headpipes have been done on a commercial basis for several years. This includes Ron Wood Racing with external coating and Big Gun who coats all thier pipes externally and internally. They both say it helps with heat dissipation and therefore increases horsepower.

Personally, I've seen the Ron Wood Pipe's coating burn off. I am not a believer in ceramic coating as far a wear is concerned.

had mine done for $80.00 looks nicer. It will reduce the temp of the pipe.

 

Here in Wisconsin we have alot of abrasive mud and I also think that in time it would wear off.
But if there was some horsepower to be gained I might consider.

 

You might consider Nikel plating instead. The heat dissipation properties are very similar, plus nikel is very durable and it plates the inside and out - no more rust. They will blue with the heat, but can easiliy be polished. I did the nikel plate option and l love it.

 

On my old quad I did an aluminium coating. I think it was done by heating the aluminum to a super hot temp and blasting it on to the pipe inside and out. It looked good, little discoloration and seemed to hold up real good to sand and rock. It should run about the same as ceramic, but to be khonest, I didn't have to pay for it since it was his first one and I was the guinea pig.

 

Good Question. I have always had my pipes done by HPC. Its pretty cheap, lowers the temp of the pipe itself quite a bit, but its not really durable, but then again chrome sucks worse, it peels off alot quicker, Ceramic just dulls, you can polish it back quite a few times before it's gone.
