wen i jump i keep at the same throttle as i come up the jump don't let off til i'm in the air, never really have a problem with the nose diving unless i'm goin too slow, which isn't often, lol

Gotta keep your weight to the back of the machine. I use steady throttle all the way off the jump. Body position plays a huge role in jumping properly.

I was nose diving my DS at first as well. Maintain a steady speed and let off the throttle when the bike is in the air. DS is a bit nose heavy. Also body position is VERY important. NEVER take a jump sitting down it will bounce you off. Use your legs to absorb the landing. I've seen my son take a 4 foot jump and land it only to ruin it cause he didn't listen and took it sitting down which in turn the rebound bucked him off his machine.

The first, last and only time I jumped a Honda 250x I was standing, using some gas etc. and the beastard bucked me so hard in the groin that I couldn't move for 10 minutes. My buddy thought it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen. Be careful when learning to jump - if you want to BEGIN to do it right, jump the same jump at least 25 times & try it a little different each time. The people who can really jump well have probably jumped a thousand times so figure if you are trying to learn you need to play catch up.

with three damaged disc in my back there is know way i can take a jump setting unless i don't want to be able to sleep for the next few nights. the DS is the first quad i feel comfortable standing up on when jumping because i am 6'3" and all the other quads were so short i felt like i was going to go over the handle bars when i would land. i've rode dirt bike since i was five and raced for almost ten years in races around our area so when i switched to a quad it took some getting used to when jumping.

I think your best advice so far in this entire thread was;

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE...!!!

Start small, no matter what your buddies say.
Don't get too confident.... it's the easiest way to get nailed.
Don't go too slow... or too fast. Too slow will always preload the suspension Front then Rear. You'd rather have both front and rear preload at similar times.... hence the faster speed makes it a little easier. Too fast and your just asking for trouble... that is till you get to be a master jumper.

I've been jumping bikes and quads for years... But just the other day I wrecked my bomb over a dune. And it was all because I was going 'bigger'.... gettin' more cocky... more aggressive. And it was waaaay too windy for that attitude. Mother nature won, leaving my bike broke and me in pain.

Anyway...
Before attempting any jumps, please be sure and wear ALL GEAR. Like... chest protector, riding boots, protective pants...etc. All too many times I've seen mishaps due to incorrect safety practices.

And lastly....
When in doubt... gas it. Seriously. How bad is it to loop out off a jump rather than endo'ing and having a Bomb come after you!! I'd rather mess up my tailbone than have a 500lb beast come down on me. Did ya ever wonder why levers and pegs are rounded off?!?!?! SO they don't stick in you like a hot knife in butter.

GOOD LUCK! bwaa haa haa (evil laugh)
