Good idea, although I don't think he will need it.

 

In the quarter you will pass the yfz and be a good seven to ten lengths ahead. This was done with my 04 X with a 17T front sprocket and rwr clutch springs. I am ahead of the yfz well before the 1/8 and keep on going. My top speed maxes out at 82mph before the rev limiter gets bumped. The yfz is fast but the top end is nothing to write home about. The raptor is faster top end than the yfz and so is the pred from what I have seen. Good luck!

 

I raced a few "stock" YFZ a few weekends ago at Dumont and it was neck and neck. I hear with a pipe though they are quite a bit faster.

 

If his YFZ is in fact stock you should be in the winners column in a 1/4 mile drag. 300' you could very well be in the losers column. You don't have to worry about that since it is a 1/4 mile. If you are useing the stock front sprocket, go up 1 tooth size. Now, if this person is piped, cam mod, jetted and no air box, he could also have went up a tooth or 2 on his front sprocket to increase his top speed. These quads are quick off the line and with mods (that you may not be able to tell that he has done) and larger front sprocket, his top speed in a 1/4 mile could very well be 80+ mph. I wouldn't race for titles but it's worth racing him to shut him up. Nothing worse than cocky punks.

 

in the 300 ft those those moded ones run with the 720-760 after that it's over if there stock it's not close, they get a great hole shot i can't believe how well they come off the line. but then the ds will pull them in and walk away.

 

Take off your rear and front fenders (over the tires) for less drag and weight. Make sure you gas tank is almost empty (put the quad in reserve, just in case), if your really desperate, you can take off the front bumper and the brakes for less weight. Don't eat or drink beer a few days prior to the race [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]. Race naked [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img] (less weight). You could also remove your headlight assembly and useless heavy stuff that is not hard to put back on.

You should also strap the front and back (strap down the suspension). If your quad is wheelie-prone, you might want to strap down the front more than the back.

stock ds650s are faster than stock banshees right? well i raced a stock yfz with my stock banshee and no matter who was riding the yfz won by a quad length. this was prolly 1/8th mile,which is far for a quad race. so i think a ds should win,ESPECIALLY a modified one like urs.

 

Also, before the race, try out your sprocket combo by running the track. See if at the finish line your bike is still pulling, if not, gear higher. If you think it still has a ways to go, gear lower. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

Good for you! but then why did you race him? were you sure he would be as nice to you if the race didnt go your way?
