Well, thank God, I waited... I ended up buying the newly released 10x9 .190's from Douglas.

Also, I changed my mind about the tires as well. I ordered 22x11x10 10 paddle Skat Trak Edge's.

In my opinion the DS has MORE than enough power to pull these tires. I should be getting both within 5-7 business days. I'll let you guys know how they turn out!

DSaholic, To answer your original question, I have the plowing problem with the stock front tires in sand. I am going to try an 8" wide, 21 or 22" tall, lightweight tire like the Razorback.

Hey DS Guys,
Make sure you get 22" tires! The 21" on my EX were squirrelly. The 22" are the answer. The GBC / Cheng Shin front tire is the Dune Tracker. It will run you $140 on .190's from Rocky Mtn. Don't be afraid to save a little money on the rears and get the Sand Sharks. They are a low cost alternative to the Sand Tires Unlimited Sand Skates and are basically the same tire. [About a $100 less]. Be careful with the Taller Haullers, they don't like to turn. It is a tire for hillshooting / drag racing. The Kenda Trakkers have poor floatation qualities. You'll be liftin' the rear-end of your DS out of the sand often. Take it from me , I had both sets of paddles last year and learned my lesson the hard way! If any of you guys are at Silver Lake between July 7-10 and see a white 400EX with race plastic that's me stop me and say "Hi". [You can't miss me I'm 6'5"] There will be a large group of ATV Connection folks there that weekend. For more info go to http://members.xoom.com/banshee370/. There are over 50 guys going, camping out together, basically having a good time. Don't miss it!
See ya at the dunes, -RT

Considering your not far from me, you were talking about Silver Lake in Michigan right?

That would be awesome! I should have my tires and rims by then and I was hoping to get a large group to go up there before or after the 4th of July so it wouldn't be so crowded.

BTW, I couldn't get the URL to work.

Thanks for the info. i think that is what I plan on doing. I am looking for a set of v paddles also. I have a set of haulers but they are to small they are only 20 in I think that I will try and find some 21 or 22 in tires. Do they make the sand shark in 22 and 21 in? I haven,t seen them in any adds only 20 in. thanks later

It sure can be a pain trying to find the right paddle tire. I just ordered a set of 20-10-10 8 paddle Haulers for my 400EX. First I wanted the GBC Sand Sharks as a cheaper clone of Sand Skate II's. The GBC Sand Sharks and the Sand Devils are out of stock at Rocky Mountain ATV. So then I figured I would just spend the extra $ and go with the Sand Skate II's. Well, just to be sure I was making the right choice, I called Sand Tires Unlimited for advice. They told me to not get the Sand Skate II's but to get the Sand Skate I's instead- the catch was that they are not in stock and would take two months to get. I can't wait any longer so I just bought a set of Haulers. I didn't want to get the Haulers in the first place, but now here I am buying them.

The dealer talked me into 20 x 11 x 9 12 paddle Haulers and I haven't tried them yet. I had planned on 10 paddles. They said I could bring them back and trade if I didn't like them. Hopefully this weekend I will get a chance. It would seem that the taller you go with the tire the fewer paddles you would want right? Has anybody tried the 12 paddle Haulers?

Kawi Kid why would you buy 22x11x10 tires and 10x9 rims? They will not work. You will either need 22x11x9 tires and the 10x9 rims or 22x11x10 tires and 10x10 rims.

Well based on the previous posts...

Dsaholic - Yea, sorry my bad the tires are 20x10x10 the rims are 10x9. I have found that this set up is really good I get great traction and no bog at all. I have a exaust tip but that is all the rest is stock. later

Ang - KawasakiKid- I have not had a clearance problem and they have been on since april.I am a big guy and ride hard. the rims are douglas .160's 10x9 the tires sand skat edge 10 paddle 22x11x10 I don't know if they still sell that size but they were left over from my banshee days, and that is the only reason I tried them.

(sometimes I miss my screaming 2 stroke)
ride hard have fun

My perception is:

22x11x10 tire
(22) tire height
(11) tire width
(10) inner dia. or rim dia.

10x9 rim
(10) rim dia.
(9) rim width

I've asked several times, over and over, to ensure this was correct, if it's not I'm gonna be F'ing P'd.
