Less than 8 hrs and oil light stays on?
#1
I have done some searches and it seems that it may be my oil pressure sensor. Does anybody have any good pics and advice on how to install a good mechanical or electric oil pressure guage. I may just take it back to the dealer to get it fixed but he is 40 minutes away. I have less than 8 hours on this machine.

When you say the red light stays on...is that from the very moment you start the quad? If so Pull the wire on the sensor and see if the light goes out. If it doesn't then it not the oil sensor. It may be the water temp sensor. Not the fan switch but the water temp sensor. One of the two is grounded thats for sure prolly. Your quad is not an 2000 model right?

Thanks for the welcome, from your sig it seems you have one fast bike. The light goes out when I pull the plug on the oil sensor so I am thinking that it is it. I have pressure washed it because I like to keep it clean. Also, if I install a mechanical oil pressure guage and leave the orginal sensor unplugged will the light still come on if my engine ever overheats? Also, does anyone know if the original sensor can be obtained from a local parts store, if so what is the part number?
thanks in advance,

I had the same problem with my 02 Baja. Everytime I washed it the sensor would go bad. Found out the little rubber gasket wouldn't keep out water. Just wrap it with plastic wrap when you wash it and it will keep it working great.

Same problem with my 04 X @ 12 hours. Except, the light would be half lit up, not fully lit. The dealer had to replace the oil pressure sensor twice. A 30 mile trip each way, twice for this...

Thanks for all of the replies, also if someone could give me what the sensor is supposed to ohm at I might be able to cross it over at the parts store, it should be in the shop manuel. Where is the cheapest place to get a shop manuel?

Brandon,
I had the same problem yesterday. I took it for a long ride and the sensor seems to have dried out and corrected itself. Took a couple of hours in the dry desert air
