Default Is it ok to re-pack stock pipe with steel wool?

I did an endcap mod on my stock pipe a little while ago and I noticed that my friend who had it before me re-packed it with steel wool and he didn't do a very good job. (not tightly packed). So can I just get a bag of steel wool and go to town or what? By the way, I cut out the restrictors on the inside of the end cap and tac welded a spark arrestor screen on the inside so the DNR wont say much.... plus it looks stock, but it sounds a little raspy so yay or nay with the steel wool??? thanks

seems my dad did that when i was a kid. i think i remember it burning out real fast, but maybe if you packed in between layer of insulation.

I just thought about my stock pipe. I don't think regular muffler packing is gonna work. unless I can get it in a roll or something because it'll blow out really easy. hard to explain.

Get some packing It's cheap enough. The yoshi packing has some steelwool like material mixed in with the packing, it's more like billo pad than steelwool. Have you ever put a lighter to steelwool? You'll see that it wouldn't last to long.

Is there packing that comes in a roll so I can wrap it around the muffler core like you can with steel wool?

The packing, if done right, shouldn't blow out. When you pull it out of the package it unrolls and is an interwoven blanket of insulation. After you wrap it around the inner core of your exhause use some masking tape or even better the tape (looks like masking tape) that powder coaters use to keep it tightly formed.

Keep that steel wool away from any electrical shorts. BOOM! 12 volts and oil soaked steel wool dont mix. Put some plain steel wool on your porch (away from anything else flamable) and light it with a 9 volt battery! hehehe!
