When I owned a 2-stroke ATV I was told that screen spark arresters were a bad thing because they become clogged up etc. After removing the stock spark arrester from my DS650 Baja (it only had 25 hours on it when I removed the stock tip) it had zero buildup and was not dirty at all. (I'm sure I could wipe a cloth on it and get some gunk, but it was still in great shape.) My assumption is that screen spark arresters suck on a 2 stroke because of how much junk comes out of the exhaust (at least on older design 2-strokes) and that on newer clean buring 4 strokes screen spark arresters aren't even a problem. I'm betting that it should be looked at once in a while but I don't think it has the maintenance issues of a 2-stroke.
Would you agree with that assumption or do you have any other input on that idea?

Yes, you are correct on the 2-stroke, 4-stroke analysis. Also, there are lots of specifications that the USFS requires to get their approval. It has to be removable so you can clean it, and they are pretty strict on the spark arrestor staying in-tact for hours and hours of run time; which was a problem for the MBRP spark arrestor.

Randy says they may be ready in 2 weeks, maybe even 1. They are dyno testing the final design today so they can spec the pipe in their description. They have received all the stamping and may even be ready for shipping next week. Don't hold your breath!
