more than likely the shifting forks. Fix - replace the forks. Have to tear engine all the way down, split cases and change out the forks. Check out the post "broken shifting fork in tranny"

Missing gears 2-3 times in a three day weekend isn't too bad. It could just be the oil that you are using or the oil needs to be changed. When I ran regular 10w40 in mine I could only run it 10 hours and it would effect shifting. I use the good stuff (Mobile1-4T) now and I only miss a gear ocasionally. I doubt its your forks, you would have more problems that 2-3 times/weekend.

I have a nearly brand new 2003 DS (10 hours +-). I had the same type of problem happen to me during a dune trip at Glamis last month. It jumped out of gear (and into neutral) maybe three times in four days of hard riding. Dealer was not interested in breaking the cases to see if the shift fork was the problem. They said they had not had even one DS 650 come in with transmission problems. They told me to wait and see if the problem continues.

I expierenced similar problems with mine last year about this time. I changed the clutch springs and clutches. I found that the metal shims that go between the clutches have a certain way that they go in. This is what a Bombardier tech told me. I arranged them the way he said and I havent had any problems since.

dssleuth is dead on right. My dsx is going in for warranty after this weekend to have the shift forks redone. We have seen alot of the bikes with this problem and unfortunately for those of you that are beyond the warranty period, this is the fix. Split the cases and replace the fork and make sure you refer to the manual when re-installing the spacers.

mine's the same way, out of one day hard riding it happens maybe twice. annoying yes, but not worth taking out my motor and spliting the case. i guess i'll just deal and do a lot of oil changes.

DSX Bear: How did you go about getting your dealer/Bombardier to step up and do the shift fork replacement? Exactly what symptoms was your bike exhibiting? I am close to being in a battle with my dealer over this, and any input/advice would really be appreciated. My six month warranty will be up in May.
