I think the rule of thumb is 1HP = 5 lbs.

I think the benefits for removing "rotational mass" weight are much greater than just "weight"- target your efforts to lightening the drive train and it'll pay dividends.

tires sprockets chain hubs are all fairly easy to work in the rotating mass, but is the axles going to make much difference since it ic so centered.

the recovered hp won't show on the dyno though would it? it's just horse power you already had but now is freed up. just going by how we figure it in cars. my plan this summer to free up some extra hp is to drop about 30lbs of fat off me

Assuming you weigh 200lbs and the DS weighs 500lbs, and the DS makes 40HP:

1lb/700lbs * 100% = 0.14% so the HP will go up by this percentage.

40HP * 1.0014 = 40.056HP

*****************************

Lets assume you then lost 50lbs on a diet and you shaved 100lbs of the DS:

150lb/700lbs * 100% = 21.43% so the HP will go up by this percentage.

40HP * 1.2143 = 48.6HP
