All the dirt good and bad on the outlander
#1
I'm looking at a new quad and want all the dirt good and bad on the outlander. From what I hear and have read it is an awesome bike. I have only heard one complaint about the long wheel base. My concerns are all the plastic and the head lights being mounted so low and far back in the body. I appreciate the input.
Thanks

My two cents...
The 400 is awesome, very good 4x4 system, lots of get up and go, the ride is very smooth, My only complaints are odd styling, and a clunk in the rear, going over bumps. Which should be fixed by now.
Didnt like the 330, supposedly its the same as the 400 except for bore size. I say bs...its not as smooth, it vibrates too much. but its very peppy for a 330.

piigpen, the bad:
Very soft plastic, it scratches very easy. Voltage reg. goes out on the older models(relocated on the newer ones). Speedo fogs up on the older models, (they fixed that too on the new ones) The clunk in the rear like Hondabuster said. Some say they are ugly? I like the looks of them myself, so go figure?
Now the good points:
I don't want to wear out my keys on my keyboard so let me just say "everything else". Everybody I have talked to loves their Outty.

My 2003 had the fogged speedo replaced and has been fine since. The rear clunk was also fixed at my first service. There was a service bulletin on that. The biggest pain so far has been the lack of accessory options.

There is not a place on my bike that is not covered in scratches. The plastic scratches easily but it wont break.
And the clunk. I havent takin it in to get it fixed yet but its there.
Ive got 800+ miles with NO problems so far. I LOVE THIS QUAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am still not sure if I like the way it looks when I am not riding it, but I don't notice it when I am riding cause I love everything else! The headlights are a little on the weak side but with the huge charging system you can add extra lights with no worries. I still find myself amazed at all this machine can do. I love the ride, the handling, the 4X4 system, and the way it climbs.

You won't be dissapointed in the Outlander 400. I have put 500 miles on rocks, hills, dunes, snow and water and I have yet to dissapointed. The clunk in the rear end was a factory mistake. they failed to put enough grease in the torsion bar in the rear end. All it takes is a little more grease and it's good to go. I'm thinking about selling my prairie 360 and getting another Outlander.

Clutching in high was a little soft, installed an EPI kit and problem gone. Drive train noise (slack?) seems to have been cured with the installation of new tires. Great atv.
