Well, There's a DS in the Paper and I want my dad to get a ATV and this looks like a good one. It is a 2000 DS650 w/ extras for 3995. On my Raptor it was listed for 4900 but we got it for four so maybe we can taik him down. Is there anything wrong with the 2000 and anything I should look for. Thanks.

I have heard from people that these are great machines then i have heard some poeple say that they have had problems with it. I know for a fact that the fan goes out on them like every year or so because i have an "01" and i have this problem. The "00" also has this problem. Do a search on this matter and u should come up with some stuff on this. Lance

biggest problem with the fans is method of install IMO, if they aren't shimmed perfectly and caused to bind the housing upon tightening the screws then they wont last, and the factory didn't exactly focus very hard on that fact . but I have a fan that's been running strong in my '01 for 3 years now, my stocker only lasted like 6 months. fans available aftermarket for $65 when they do go. '03 and on have rubber fan mounts.
but there are several differences from '00 to '01, that make '01 and on preferable.
the oil filter and cover is larger starting '01.
beginning '01 the oil intake line coming from the tank to pump has a built in breather tube that goes from the connection point at the motor back to the tank, which allows air to escape for self priming after a rollover or oil change. on the '00, the lack of this usually means you gotta open the blead screw under the filter cover to prime the pump.
the chain rollers on the '00 and '01 are junk, easily replaced with an aftermarket that has bearings for $30, if it hasn't been already.
the swingarm has an added reinforcement sometime during the '00 production - some have it some don't. it only matters if you take monster air.
the few changes after '00 are great, but they are all minor and if you get a good deal on an '00 then great. but $4k is kinda high unless it has plenty of add-on goodies, JMO. In Michigan, you can get a brand new '04 out the door for $5200.
