Default Bad Day!!

While riding today I broke a chain. When the chain broke it broke my crank case saver and the sprocket shield. The worst part is that when the crankcase saver broke it sheared off the top bolt hole that holds the case saver and the sprocket cover on. I'm pretty sure I can have it welded. Anyone else ever have this happen? Not sure what caused it. Looks like the master link broke. But I cant be sure because I never found what was left of the master link.

While I have to change the parts out which parts should I get? I have to replace sprockets, case saver, and the sprocket cover.

I was running the woods sprockets in stock gearing, along with a R.K. chain 530// 110 links, stock saver and sprocket cover. I would like to change the gearing from stock to 15/40. I run mostly short drags and I run 22's extreme haulers.

Are the Primary Drive sprockets any good? Are they steel or aluminum? I rather Steel.

Sorry bout the long post.

That sux, probably lucky the chain didn't bind up and break into the cases themselves. I always worry about that. I stick with steel sprockets, imo.

1BigDS, I have actually done the EXACT same thing. It chiped off the top part of bolt hole fot the case saver(the first one on top)
It scared me a bit cause I thought at first something real bad happened.

I know everyone says to use the lighter weight chains, Well I formed my own opinion based on common sence. You obviously has a taste of what can happen when a chain snaps. Luckily your ankle didnt get mopped up by the chain.

What I did for a chain= I went and found the most durable heavy duty chain I could find (to prevent further nightmares). It is a-- RK XW- ring chain GB530GXW-120L for my +4. Good luck, you at least know you can cross the finish line if chain holds up

I had problems with RK 530 chain - kinks and stretching. I'd use a different chain like Regina.
