I was running my DS and the oil light flickered so I checked the oil normal level. (temp was fine) I saw it had foam in it so I smelled it. I smelled alot of gasoline in it. Is this normal??

I doubt that a gas smell in the oil is out of the normal, considering the proximity of the oil and the gas, and the fact they touch some of the same surfaces inside your engine. Though, an opinion from a real mechanic (not a shadetree) might be more knowledgable. But hey, if you need a computer question answered, I can probably nail that one down for ya.

Smell the oil in your car, it smells like oil, same principal on the combustion. Usually when you smell gas in the oil, a ring is not broke in right or possibly broke. I hope not.

JamesDS650, There was a bad lot of oil pressure switches that were used on the DS650s. Many of us have replaced the sensor. I used a BMW sensor because Bombardier changed the sensor they use due to this problem and it required a different wiring connection.

If your sensor is not bad, the oil light will start to flicker when the motor gets hot if the oil has not been changed in a while. I have noticed significant oil degradation after just one month, so I change the oil frequently.

I have the foamy, creamy oil symptom and believe it is a bad seal on the water pump. Is your radiator fluid mysteriously disappearing?

No, the Antifreeze is fine. I changed the oil last night and got gas in it again. I was told by the dealer that there should be no Gasoline smell in the oil. Maybe your waterpump shaft is slightly bent like my original was. They should warranty manufacturers defects such as workmaship. The warranty I would think should have been extended for you Scooby.

Usually, only engines with high mileage tend to have the oil smell like gas. This is normally due to ring wear. If the "gas odor" is real strong, I would think that there is definitely a problem. However, if there is barely just a hint of the smell, everything is probably fine. It would be best to have the mechanic check it out.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I read in the Chain Gang www.f650.com message board, that the F650's are known to burn oil. What do your plugs look like? Are they near white, or dark, or wet with gas? Does the fan run continuously?

Here is what the dealer said to me on my backfiring and the gas in the oil: We are replacing the spring in the carb and that should fix it because this is what bombardier tech support said to do.

I am not buying that crap. Mine does not bog at all it just backfires. I always turn the gas off after I ride so there should not be gas in the oil at all. I have no idea what is going on. I guess I will keep taking it to the dealer because it still is not fixed and I bought mine in March.

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but are you running premium fuel in your DS? The only time mine ever backfired was when I accidentally put regular in instead of premium.

Backfiring on deceleration as well as gas in the oil is a symptom of an overly rich mixture.

Is the oil thin?
