Default Question on 14 tooth front sprocket?

I just ordered a 14t front sprocket and was wondering if i need to change anything to install it? Im keepimg the rear stock, im not all about speed,i just want more torque in third and fourth gear. Is this to low of a gear, anybody else run a 14t,and how much did it affect it? Going to the badlands the 25th-27th! Anybody else going?

Default Question on 14 tooth front sprocket?

Sparky..I'm currently running 14/40..40 being stock rear. As long as your chain isn't stretched..you shouldn't have any problems. I've heard of some guys running out of chain adjustment with the smaller front spocket..my was OK. Even with the low gearing, I can still run past a Stock YFZ is top gear..so all the speed isn't gone.

Default Question on 14 tooth front sprocket?

I've run a 15, 16 and 17 but, never a 14. Don't know if there are any issues.

15/43 is the lowest I've heard of. 15/42 will work with a stock chain though.

Default Question on 14 tooth front sprocket?

i ran a 14 front for awhile with 22 inch paddles in the rear... with the 22 paddles it was a pertty good setup. but when i ran it with stock tires (20's) in the rear it wasnt too great...geared WAY too low for my taste. i have a big gun cdi so i dont hit limit until like 8k somthing, and i was nailing the limiter in every gear in like 1.2 seconds lol. if you are running stock rears i would try a 15. (and i dont care about my top speed much either, but it was getting really annoying have to UPshift all the time (i would be in like 4th for stuff im usually in second for, and was shifting all day long)

i ride the badlands too, usually with a 15 front and 22 rears. (actually makes gearing a tad bit OVER stock by like 2%....

Default Question on 14 tooth front sprocket?

Like Roost, I run a 14/40 on the sand with 22" Hualers, 1st gear is never used other than around the Parking lot, Pretty much have the torque to easily pull out of any hole in 2nd or 3rd. 70+ MPH on the sand is fast enough for me.

ya with the 14 i always started in 2nd gear (1st is basically a waste when you are geared that low, espeically in the sand... unless you enjoy attempting the well-known dig to china )
