Hi, this is my first post on this forum and i wanted to get some opinions about sand tires.
I will soon have a 2005 DS650 and would like to get a set of sand tires and wheels for it. Front and Rear
I know that the straight paddle will make me lose some manuverability which is why i am looking at V-paddles or the Geckos. What is your opinion for the most popular "best for the money" setup (rims and tires). Most of the riding will be recreational.
Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Take a look at the ITP Sand Stars. They are very reasonably priced at RockyMountain ATV. I just ordered a set of their front sand tires.
They are a great recreational tire for the money.
You will want to go with 22" rear tires no matter which brand you decide on. 20" just dig in on the heavier DS.

I tried the geckos first, good floatation, but little traction. Tried Sandstars next, better traction, but they wear fast on the heavy ds. Now have extreme grip haulers, haven't used them yet, but the paddles are very thick, they look very promising for long wear and good traction.

If you want decide to go with straight paddles, The Skat extremes are the only way to go. I have probably over 60 plus days of riding on mine, over a two year period, they are just starting to wear to how I like them, no more cup. Incredible wear, good tire. Gecko's suck. The new ITP's dont do to bad though, good priced alternative.

The first question to ask is what type of riding? Drag racing, Sliding or just general riding. It will make a difference to what type of paddle. Drags you need a straight paddle but they are harder to turn with. General riding Id get 20" v style paddles like edges. Skat Traks rule. They are light and durable. I run 22x11x10 Haulers for drags with 10 paddles. If you are stock get 8 paddles. You get alot of spin with a 20" paddles but they are fun. Also molded paddles are heavy like Geckos or Sand Sharks. Go with a Hauler or an Edge. 20" for just playing or 22" for more traction. As for the fronts Id go with Mohawks. Hope this helps
