One of my riding buddies has a fully built 440EX with Edlebrock carb, etc. It was actaully alot faster than is dad's YFZ450, until he did the cam mod, and put a pipe on it. Now they're pretty much even. It's a fun bike, but I think you could pick up a Suzuki, etc for pretty much the same price, and have something water cooled with alot more potential. It's funny you mention putting the DS motor in a EX frame. I actually looked into putting my DS motor into my EX frame, but would have to do ALOT of cutting to get it to fit. I think a Rath Racing frame, set up to accept the DS motor would be perfect. They set up a frame to accept a KTM 520 motor, that is similar in height as the DS motor, and it was awsome. Image a DS motor in a quad that weighs 350pds!!!!

Default Big bore 400EX owners???

well one of my buddies was over here with his 400EX and i was taking some measurements, it wouldn't take that much cutting, they're motor cavity is only a inch or so shorter, but if ya cut it so a ds motor fit then you wouldn't have room for a rad or oil tank, plus i'd need to figure out how to switch the axle so the chain would be right, it's jsut alotta work, so i think i'm going to start looking for a xr600 or xr650l, any other suggestions for motors that'd b easy to find?

I'd look into a KTM 520 motor. They're relatively easy to find, I see ad's in the quad mags for them, with electronics. Call up Rath racing, and see if they've done one in an EX frame. They might have some suggestions as well. I've seen a few XR650 motors in EX frames. There's one in one in a Lone Star frame in one of the latest mags that is sweet!!!

I finally got my 440 ex dialed in. It is amazing what the right mods will do for that quad. Last weekend after getting everything right, I sent my friend Joe up comp hill with it and he was killing piped Raptors! The 450Rs were no problem either. I did put alot of money into mine, and its good to see it finnally come together!

1) Edlebrock 38mm carb - $474
2) 13:1 440 JE Piston kit - $311
3) 440 Bore and Sleeve - Head Porting- $ labor
4) Cams and Valve Springs - $154 + $84
5) Shortened Valve Guides - $51
6) Hardweld Rocker Arms - $244
7) CDI - $150

Other Options

7) Over Size Tank with Oil Cooler
8) Ultra Light 9 Paddle Skat Trak Haulers
9) Swingarm - at least 2" over

The cool thing about this kit, is that once you get used to beating Raptors, you can stroke the 440 and get a 465 out of her and not redo any of your other mods! YFZs -- Look out!
