One thing I noticed when I installed a vortex on my buddies 03 ds. His would only rev to like 6500 at most no matter what position or setting the cdi was at. Well after messing with it the switch was not working and was only allowing it to rev to 6500, after I fixed it it was ok. The switch was not making contact in the housing, if you unplug the switch all together it will only rev to around 6500 and that was just on this vortex it may be diffrent on others. I know the one that is on mine is just fine. So you might try messing around with the switch and see what happens.
