Anybody up for a little DSing this winter in the wonderful California Desert? Just a thought for those that can't make it to Nevada? There is a cool little town called Ransburg where it is legal to ride into Old gold contry. Paid Campgrounds or Free camping RVs welcome on the Cal City side.Just a thought.

Stein,
I have rode out that direction a few times in the past. Make a post here when you plan to go and I'm sure a bunch of the gang will show up in pieces.

I doubt you'll need a flagger. That hill is long enough that the HP of the bike and the ability of the rider typically show themselves by the top of the hill.

GREAT! That means I can come in last or close to it behind all of the high HP bikes.
At least I can beat stockers! hahaha
So does anyone know what the road between Sacremento & Fallon look like? The 80 and 50? I heard that some of that driving on those roads will be through the mountains and quite slow driving. I was hoping for a fast drive the whole way but it doesn't sound like that will happen. Any input from people who've made the drive?

Elk Grove is a suberb of Sacramento in the south. I need to go north about 20 minutes to Sac then East to Reno. Takes me about 4-1/2 hours.
The 7.3L Diesel Excursion tows the Weekend Warrior at about 60 the whole way to Reno. Some areas a little faster some a little slower. 80 doesn't have the kind of turns that are going to require you slow down that much.
About 2.5 hours from Sac. to Reno and about 40 from Reno to Verdi / 40 from Verdi to Fallon and 30 from Fallon to Sand Mt. (Ball-park times.)
Get any supplies in Fallon (Don't stop at Fox Peak for gas - they support closure of Sand Mt.) Harmon Junction is past the hospital about 2 miles on the corner. They actually sent a donation to keep Sand Mt. open so they are the preferred vendor. If you go there let them know you appreciate them supporting Sand Mt. - That will keep them donating to the cause.
This will be a busy weekend for the CHP. Watch your speed from Roseville through Auburn (until you get past the Meadowvista / Clipper gap exit). The CHP also like to hang out around Emigrant Gap (I think that is it?) Basically if you hav a steep downhill watch your speed, they like to wait at the bottom to catch you if you aren't using your breaks. Also, if your towing try to stay in the right lane, especially through Sacramento. They don't like to see trailers in the middle and left lanes.
Once you get to Nevada it is 65 mph for trailers too (CA is 55 for trailers). After Reno it is 70 for everyone.

Shouldn't have any problem w/ I80 all the way to Fallon turnoff. In the winter I pull my 4 snowmobiles in a 25' trailer over that hill to Reno. Aslong as it isn't snowing or icy, I make it from west of Stockton to Truckee in 3 hours & about another 30 minutes to Reno. Pulling w/ a Silverado Z71 5.3 w/o a problem. Reno to SM is a snap.
Have a good fun trip

Hey are most of you guys bringing 2 way radios? Maybe we can all agree on a channel to use so we can communicate while we are there. It would be helpful for those coming in so they know where the main camp is etc. Whaddya think? May I suggest channel 6.1 ? Thoughts...
