why is it doing this? is my bearings worn or is it my bearing carrier that is f'ed up?
thanks!

I'm going through that now. It's at least your bearings and seals. When I removed mine I found that a bearing had demolished into several pieces. Replacing the carrier depends on any damage to it. You'll need some tools and experience to get the job done. If you know how to remove the axle, then the carrier removal, if necessary, is not too difficult except for the snap ring. You have to get the carrier out to heat it to put the new bearings in it.

There is a torq setting for your rear axle bearings, first the manual says to tighten to 68ft pounds to properly set parts then back nut off and re-set to 28ft pounds. At least that is on a 04 not sure about the other years.

The rear axle bearings are actually an easy repair. I just did mine, piece of cake.
First...Buy a service manual!!!!
Second, you are crazy if you buy the bearings and seals from Bomb....they are stock, everyday common bearings and seals. NAPA can most likely have them in a day or so, my local bearing dist. normally carries the bearings but was temp out of stock (2 business days) and the seals were 2nd day. REPLACE THE RACES (included) WITH THE BEARINGS OR YOU WILL BE DOING IT AGAIN SOON!!!!!
Third...Buy A Service Manual!
It's outlined really well there.
