Has anyone on here ever cracked a ds650 frame?? Where did it break and why do u think it broke?

 

Nuther question about screwing up a DS. My best friend has a '00 DS and well, here's what happened. He was driving it and I was behind him and saw a bunch of blue smoke. I stopped him and he shut it off immediately, there was lots of oil all over the top of the engine. He said it never acted like anything was wrong. The problem was the tube that goes to the oil res. came off and sprayed the engine. He got that figgered out, plugged it back in, put in new oil, and now it won't start. You can smell the gas, but it won't fire. I don't know if he has checked the spark or not. If it's not getting spark, where can we go from there? if it is? Thanks.

 

I think the only DS frames I've heard of getting damaged are from auto accidents. Guys running into autos or Auto's running into the trailer the quad was on.

As for why the quad won't start???

Could he have pulled off (accidentally) one of the ignition wires for the key switch or something else when trying to plug in the oil line? Does it turn over?

yea thats what i thought the ds frame looks really thick and strong

 

I came close to bending it when I went flew off a 2 story dune (by accident). When I landed I blew out the bead on 3 tires, bent the steering stem and handle bars. There was a slight bend in the frame (we think) but we never were sure where it was located. The motor mounts did keep breaking, so we figured that there was a bind somewhere caused by a very slight bend in the frame. I ended up buying a new frame.

The DS frame is very strong - Much stronger than my 400EX frame.

It will crank but not fire at all. I dunno. I will have him check to see if he is getting any spark.

 

i have never seen a ds frame crack but i have seen z400 crack in four differant spots on one little jump, will never buy one on them!!! junk!![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

I have cracked the frame on my DS right behind the footpegs on both sides. It cracked right in the gusset behind the pegs. I cracked them because I am 300 lbs. and think I can motorcross, but usually come up short and smash things[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]. I have cracked two stock swingarms, and both front lower a-arms also, but that is common.

Did the engine loose all the oil ie did the pressure light come on , if it did i would do a compression check on it jus t be sure there's no cylinder damage, but check for spark first.
