Default Adjusting valves ... leave it to the pros or can a rookie do it ??

Hey people ... just thought I would bounce this one off you all that do all your own wrenching.
Im not garage stupid, but have mostly worked on Chevy V8s. When it came to working on the heads Ive always left that to the pros... So throw me a line and let me know what I might be in for on adjusting the valves ..... thanks !!

Just whats involved in adjusting the valves on the DS ?
What do I need to remove to get at them ?
What special tools might I need?
What parts would I need if any?
Is there a complete manual that spells it out..and dont tell me the Bomb Shop Man. cuz it sucks.... unless theres a different one that the one I have ...

Help the Arizona boy out !! Speak up !!

JP.

I just have the dealer do mine. It is more of a hassle to pull it apart find out what shims you need then go to the dealer and get them. I rather give the dealer $50 to do mine and not worry about it.

G O L D !!!

Thanks DuneMe .. thats what Im looking for !! Is that what you used ??

LMAC650 Thats what Ive been doing for the last few years but it seems that they just dont care as much for my stuff as I do... Not to mention they charge too F-N much. Two years ago I had them replace the ball joints under warranty. Well they too a week longer and I got it on a friday night and took it to the track on Sat morning. I took two warm up laps and on the begining of the third lap I went off the main tabletop and overshot the down side a bit ... when I landed the Lower Right C-clip that holds in the ball joint said SEE-YA ! Wheeeeee what a ride that was ... Ive never stopped so fast in my life $2500.00 later I got my DS back from the dealer. They paid for it too . Then get this ! After I got it back I checked it over ( as I should have done the first time ) and sh*t was still loose. Ive never trusted them from then on. Even before that I had a Warrior that they didnt tighten one of the rocker arm bolts down on. That spoiled a day too.. although I never crashed from that one. I know there are plenty of great mechanics out there I just figured its time to get it done myself and save the coin for better things... MUST GO FASTER !!!

It's hard finding a good dealer. I drive over 2 hours to get to a good dealer that knows what they are doing.

you could have it done in 2 hrs. JMAC. You should buy some shims and stop wasting your time with the dealer.

I've messed up a few things myself but, I'm the only one to blame. Something about when I pay someone to do work and $hit happens.

Seems like I also find something else when I do work on my bike. Hate getting more tasks but, better to find them before they kill a weekend.

I totally agree, seems like a ton of people have more Money than a "want-to-learn". In my opinion if you ride it, fix it!

well I don't know about that stuff. I just say get some shims do it yourself, that way each time you do it you will know what is going on with your engine. Which really helps.
