Grrrrrrrr....Need Help
#1
Hey everyone.....
Well I have a stripped oil plug on my 02 Baja. I've read through the posts and the website link was great. I want to find out to see if any recently had this happen to them. If so, what they did to fix the problem. I have a few options...any input is appreciated
1. Buy the BMW kit for $120 shipped and install it (Seems to be the best long term solution)
2. Buy a longer threaded bolt and hope the remaining unused threads grab
3. Used the existing bolt and epoxy it in and use a oil pump for oil changes
4. Try to re-thread it and go with a bigger bolt. (dealership suggestions)
Any ideas....opinions? Thanks!!!!

I would try option #2 first, but make sure it's not too long.
I would definately stay away from option #3. lol
I would probably try #4 as a last resort. I think to get it right that the engine would have to pulled out, flipped and done on a mill/drill press to make sure everything is square so the head will seal good. Then you also have to worry about getting aluminum shavings in the crankcase.
Don't know what option #1 consists of.
Hope this helps!!!!!!!!

You can go to your local automotive shop like a napa or a checker aoto and get a helicoil setup and drill bit for your size plug you will have to drill it out and install the helicoil not very hard to do just take your time and do it right or you can change the thread pattern on the helicoil while installing if not done rite cost around $60.00.
Good Luck.

Thanks for all the help guys!!
I'm either going with helicoil or this BMW kit which seems to be a self tapping bolt with a smaller hex bolt in the middle. Let me know if anyone has tried this and your luck..
