Default NEED HELP ELECTRICAL GUYS

I HAVE HAD MY 00 DS APART FOR FEW MONTHS. POWDER COATED FRAME AND SWINGARM AND A FEW GRAND IN AFTERMARKET PARTS (THE PICS WILL BE UP SOON) BUT ANYYWAY I WAS RE-ROUTING THE WIRING HARNESS AND NOW I GOT A BIG PROBLEM. I STARTED THE BIKE TWO DAYS AGO AND IT WAS FINE . HAD THE WIRING NOT IN PLACE JUST CONNECTED TO START IT. SO I DISCONNECTED IT TO ROUTE IT WHERE IT GOES AND WHEN I TRIED TO START THE BIKE. THE PROBLEMS BEGAN. FIRST OFF I HAD BOTH LIGHTS COME ON, MEANING THE OIL AND NEUTRAL, BUT WHEN I HIT THE STARTER IT JUST CLICKED..... I HIT IT AGAIN. CLICK. AGAIN. ... CLICK . AND AS I HIT IT THE CLICK GOT WEAKER AND THE OIL AND NEUTRAL LIGHTS GOT DIMMER. ..END RESULT. NOW ONLY THE RED LIGHT COMES ON AND IT IS ONLY HALF AS BRIGHT AS NORMAL AND I HAVE NO NEUTRAL LIGHT. THE BIKE IS IN NEUTRAL THOUGH. I CHECKED TO SEE IF THE BATTERY HAS JUICE SO I HOOKED UP THE HEADLIGHT AND TURNED IT ON . IT IS FINE AND THE LIGHT IS BRITE. THE STARTER DOES NOT TURN, OR CLICK ANYMORE AND THE BIKE IS DEAD. I HAVE A MANUEL AND DIAGRAM BUT I AM A MORE NUTS AND BOLTS KINDA GUY. NOT A ELECTRICAL GURU. BESIDES THAT WIRING DIAGRAM MAY AS WELL BE IN CHINESE BECAUSE I DONT REALLY GET IT. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT. HERES A EARLY THANKS TO ANYONE WHO HAS SOME POINTERS.
THANKS.

The ground wire from the battery to the frame sound suspect. When you ran the ground to the frame did you scrape the powder coating to bare metal for a good contact or not ? Check that first and let us know!

Did you check your fuse?

If your frame has been powdercoated there may not be any metal to metal contact for your ground? You may have to scrape some of the powder coating off to expose some metal.

I'm really not an electrical guy either so, that's about all I can offer.

I WILL TRY THE GROUND WIRE. I DID THINK AS I WAS HOOKING IT UP TO SAND DOWN THE COATING BUT I DIDNT. THE WEIRD THING IS THAT IT STARTED AND RAN FINE THE OTHER DAY WITH IT HOW IT IS NOW. BUT I WILL CHECK THAT LATER THIS AFTERNOON.

do you have a voltage meter? I am going to give you my back ground in electronics, I am a navy slq tech. I have 2 years exp. take it for what it is worth. I don't have the wiring diagram and have never worked on a ds so.. but I will try to help.
1. check you connections, make sure they are tight and don't seem discolored, if they are then your wires are getting to much juice and are burning up.
2. possible bad ground, if you don't have a good ground then you limit the number of electrons that can complete the circle. make sure your paint isn't covering any part of the machine were a connection is supost to be.

As I don't have a diagram of the wiring I really can't give you any more advanced advice then this. Start from where the problem is at and work or way back. Go in halves. check the resiestance it should be a low number. if it is not then you have opened wire then with the system on check the voltage. it should read the correct voltage or very close to what the diagram says is on that wire. if it doen't then the wire is shorted to ground. Because it started to click and then got weaker I wold say some thing as opened or shorted out. but before you start tearing things a part check you connections. I have seen guys spend 100,000 dollars on replacement parts and it just turned out to be a bad connection. If you need any more help send me a message and I will try.
good luck.

click, click ,click sounds like your starter solenoid isn't getting enough juice, so a weak battery may be culprit. Even with a weak battery your head light may appear plenty bright. Jump it from another 12V source-if it starts you have your answer.

Are you sure you hooked all the wires back up to the correct spots? It sounds as though you might have wires crossed somewhere and shorting out somewhere.

I AM PRETTY SURE I HOOKED THEM UP RIGHT. AFTER THE PROBLEM STARTED I BEGAN TO SWITCH UP WIRES THAT MAY HAVE BEEN WRONG AND STILL NO LUCK. THE MANUEL IS REALLY NOT MUCH HELP. THEY SHOW THE DIAGRAM BUT IT THEY DONT LIST ALL THE DETAILS OF WIRE COLORS AND SOME CONNECTIONS. FOR EXAMPLE THE STARTER HAS A BROWN WIRE AND A WHITE WIRE COMING OUT THAT CONNECTS TO A RED AND A RED/VIOLET WIRE. THE DIAGRAM SHOWS THE RED ONES BUT MAKES NO MENTION OF THE BROWN AND WHITE ONES.
