Default carb float level

My stock carb has been leaking gas out the rubber hose ever since I changed the jets. I read in a previous thread that this is caused by crud being in the float valve. The reason I didn't take the float off last time I had the carb apart for cleaning was because I didn't want to mess up any adjustments. So my question is, is there any adjustment I need to be aware of, or does the float assembly only go together one way, with nothing to adjust?

You may have bumped your float bending the tang that adjusts the float level. (It's where the float exerts pressure on the needle valve). A simple way to check is to purchase a small clear tube that you can attach temporarily to the float bowl bleed at the bottom of the bowl. Run it up the side of the bowl and open the drain, (with the petcock on), the fuel will fill the hose to the level matching the inside of the bowl. Basically you are making a sight glass to check your float level. If the fuel sits too high in the bowl or higher than the edge of the bowl, take off the float bowl and bend the tangupward away from the float which will put pressure on the valve sooner as the float lifts. Just bend it slightly!!. Don't ride around with the temporary hose on the carb either!!
I hope this helps.

So there isn't actually a measurement to set it to? I'm pretty sure the float isn't out of adjustment, because gas will even run out of the hose when I hold it up past the carb. It must not be shutting off at all. Your idea of using a clear hose to set the float level is almost too easy. I would have never thought of that. Thanks.
