are you cranking the motor several times until reading peaks?

is the battery fully charged?

is the motor warm?

I've always done a compression test in much warmer weather than 34 degrees. The low readings could be due to cold engine.

Shouldn't a compression test only be done after the motor has been warmed up?

i am no master mechanic but i would say that leak down tests and compression should always be done to a cold engine. reason: i had a bad valve leak that was taking away all compression. it was to the point that the bike would not start on its own. i would get pulled by another quad and pop the clutch to start it and it would run fine( as fine as a quad with low compression) once running the heat of any engine causes things to expand . after running the bike for a while i could turn it off and then start it back up and ride but once it cooled down again and the valves contracted again it would loose all compression and not start. so that is why leakdown tests and compression tests should be done on a cold engine. btw, JA650 HOW IS YOUR BACK DOING MAN? better i hope. it sounds like your a little more mobile?

yeah i am doing alot better my kid is 14 he is doing all the work and i supervise, he is gonna be a good mechanic, when i baught it the intake valves were way out of adjustment and i think i have a burntvalve thats why i figure its gonna snow here soon so i am tearing it apart powdercoating the frame and going throught the motor, new ringsand probably a valve job, get a mrhp ported intake and mrhp endcap 22 inch rears 22 inch fronts and 15 tooth front sprocket with 04 headlight update and orange baja plastic with nerf bars and my streering stem is bent so i am gonna get a peice of pipe and make it 1 1/2 inches longer so i can use diffeerent handlebars, that is my winter project cool huh? the wife doesnt think so i have it ripped apart in out 3 season porch lol oh well

glad to hear you are doing better. you will be amazed in the difference that the frame being powdercoated makes. my powdercaot job added at least 4-5 horsepower what coler are ya thinking about going with?
