Are you looking for summer places to ride ? Check out Utah, Coral Pink would be closer to you, also Sand MTN, UT.

My family and I take a week trip every summer and love it. Water is a little cold, but there is nothing like taking a ride and then coming back and relaxing on the beach! Toy haulers/motor homes are ideal for Pismo...you can either park in the reserved spots (which aren't on the beach), or buy a pass and just take your truck/toy hauler right along the beach and park where you want! Great trip, I'd defintely do it if I had the chance...

Summer is absolutely beautiful...I'd say June for great weather.

I lived in SLO for 4 years while in college. The best weather is August-October (not as much fog along the coast). As far as riding there are rougly 1500 acres of dunes. The are NO large dunes like you find at most other places. You may be disappointed if your use to riding the big dunes. The beach is nice but the place is a madhouse during the summer months (get reservations). It also doesn't help that they block off about 1/4 of the beach during this time for some bird to nest.

In town there are a lot of cool places for the women to go do some shopping or grab a bite to eat. If you make it down to the pier check out Splash Cafe. Get there early because there will be a line around the building on the weekends. Harry's bar across the street always has a live band playing.

There are RV parks in Oceano but they are usually full and you have to make reservations way in advance. Since you have a small toyhauler I would suggest just camping on the beach like everyone else. Just make sure to air down your tires and keep your speed up.

It rarely gets hot at Pismo. Your right on the beach. If anything it will be on the cool side year round.

Great place to ride. I go down there about once a month, I have never went and not had a good time. The summer dose get a little crazy but there it always something cool, and fast out at the drag strip. If you like steak there is Mclintocks in Shell Beach, A.J. Spurs in Pismo. You do need to pay attenion to the tide chart, high tides will force you further up onto the softer sand. Check out this link it has a tide chart and weather. http://www.oceanodunes.org/index.asp

Ditto to what DSengineer said. Myself I don't really care to ride at pismo. No challenges except to avoid other riders, seems like I nearly have a head on everytime I've been there. It can be a real mad house, especially in the summer & holidays. On the positive there are usually some nice looking honeys in bikini's. Fall & winter are my favorite times to go - best weather. Usually foggy/marine layer stays around till at least mid-afternoon in the summer. Their comp hill is basically a flat sand drag, so even the little bikes do well. The only reason I go is because its awesome to camp on the beach and being able to hear & see the ocean. Kids can collect sea shells & swim when not riding. Oregon Dunes are my favorite - you have a little of everything. Ocean, Midsized to small dunes and lots of sand trails going everywhere through the dunes & trees. Absolutely gorgeous & fun.
