Default Launching at Drags

Two Questions based on 300 ft dirt drags.

What gearing and tires work best for a slighly modded DS?

Which gear do you start out / has worked best for you and why?

What type of soil. Loose dirt, sand, hard pack, stickey, etc.

Soils are usually hard to firm

Getting traction out of the hole is the issue and too much spin when shifting into second gear.

second gear for sure you will lose too much speed in 1st. you will be playing catch up. and 300 goes really fast Ive learned this lesson( I lost to a kaw 700 ) to much spin and no speed out of the hole. The following week I started in second and smoked him. I also recomend a 14t for 300' and I also ran 4 snows. also lower the quad. make the rear lower and as soft as possiable. you can launch much harder w/ the quad slamed. See pics

With the 14T sprocket are you using a 20 or 22 inch tire?

Are you shifting 2 or 3 times?

With 4snows do they grow and hit your fenders?

SAM,

Looking at your pics it looks like you are running radials on the rear, for normal riding.
Did you ever lower the air pressure on the radials to 1 1/2 #'s and try them at the drags?
Are the 4snows just that much better?

I really like the 4 Snows but we ran a while back and the surface was hard with some tiny little bits of rock and the radials worked better. For loose dirt the 4 Snows rock. I also lauch in 2nd with a 15 tooth front sprocket. If you must use 1st dont over rev. I usually shift quick out of 1st. Also 1 last tip as soon as shes out of the hole get your butt back over those tires.

since those pics I ve went to kenda Klaws and love them. the radials were about half gone and I was spinning alot out of the hole the 4 snows stop that. I only ran the snows in the drags last year. the klaws grab like crazy as well. I might try them this year.along w/ the 4 snows. I set up a 300 foot strip on my land and had my bro in law time me. I will do that again this year w/ a few tweeks. to see if I can improve on my times.
