Static leak/seep on DS 650
#1
Hello everyone
It's been a few years since I been on this forums, But! It's nice to be back.
I just bought a DS650 last week new in the box, after my first ride I checked the oil level and found that the dip stick was only on the add area, so I got out my manual and read - I added a little oil at a time with starts of one minute, shut off, wipe the dip stick and check again until I got to the second mark on the dip stick.
After that, I started to get oil on my oil line and I found out where that is coming from - the stem/nipple in the middle of the oil tank, but the real problem is I get a static leak/seep behind the cylinder, by the oil line fitting (only when sitting engine not running) I brought it back to the dealer - note! The are not the sharpest of people.
any help would be great, I was told by another dealership tech it could be a clogged or pluged vent line whats your thoughts?
Thanks again.
Steve

It's a 2004 DS 650 STANDARD model.
I brought it back to the dealer and the fitting on the oil tank was loose and the elbow fitting nut was also loose, dealer is cleaning with brake cleaner and applying red loctite (I was told)
I hope this cures the problem.

If that is the hose fiting on the bottom of the oil tank the red loctite will be hydraulic sealer ...DONT DO IT
You need to take that nipple out at every other oil change as it has a mesh screen built oninto it for catching crap.
And if the loctite is what i think it is 542 it takes a hell of a hold, thread (ptfe) tape is more than good enough for sealing that.
542 loctite is good stuff and is great for sealing npt fittings on high pressure (2000-10000 psi) hydraulic systems or any thing you dont want to take out on a regular basis.
Your Mechanic should no better if he works on these bikes, ask him if he knows about the screen if not service the bike yourself
dont pay $ for expertise they dont have
