i have driven both quads. i now own a ds650 and betwwen the two i would go with the ds, just because of the reliabilityof the 4 stroke. im just not a big fan of the two strokes and the maintenence you have to do on them. the ds is a very fun quad to drive. The weight and the size is a little intimidating at first but you get used to it. I dont know if you are a fan of the polaris predator but those new ones are awesome. the 05 has reverse, which is key. that is the only other quad i would ever think about replacing my ds with.

I obviously would push the DS over any other but I don't know why you would opt out the 660 Raptor. Earlier models had transmission problems but that was worked out in the late 2003-early 2004 models. Honestly the Raptor is a great machine but just not as good as the "Man killer DS650"

Good luck!

robthewheeler,
You asked this same question on the Yamaha forum, where you also said your were looking for an ATV to ride motocross with. For motocross the Banshee may not be the best ATV out there, but the DS650 isn't a whole lot better, if any better at all. Pretty much any other sport quad can be made better than these two, because handling issues plague the Banshee, and weight issues plague the DS. Seriously, either of the 450s could beat a DS, and even well set up 400s could beat the DS on certain tracks. So if you are really quad shopping for a MX quad, and the question is Banshee vs DS, the answer is, ... neither.

And how addicted are you to that two stroke hit when you crack the throttle? I am asking that because a 4-stroke just doesn't have the same feel. I have three dirt toys right now, and the two stroke is the fastest, even though it is the smallest. Have you ever considered a bike for motocross? The suspension, handling, and power to weight ratio are all about a kajillion times better than with an ATV. Just raising some questions for you is all, so don't take my post wroing. It's better to re-think the question twice, and buy once, than it is to buy something you don't like (been there, done that ).

I think for the MX track the YFX450 would be a better choice then the DS but then again what the hell do I know, I've been known to ride a Harley Davidson Superglide in the dirt.....
